Nonthaburi governor denies special treatment for gunman former MP

Nonthaburi Governor Chetsada Mosigrat visited the police station yesterday on August 10 to follow developments after former MP Chalong Riewraeng shot and killed PAO Chairman Police Colonel Thongchai Yenprasert earlier that morning. The governor addressed circulating images showing Riewraeng smoking near officers while detained, stating he requested permission due to stress rather than receiving preferential treatment or special handling by police personnel.

Investigators have confirmed that Chalong was handcuffed according to standard procedures and admitted several aspects of the case during questioning based on available CCTV footage. Police charged him with premeditated murder among other offenses and applied for a court warrant to search his home, while also opposing bail requests despite legal representation being provided by counsel acting on his behalf.

Officials are considering revoking firearm licenses if evidence supports grounds under the law while authorities prepare an election timetable to fill Thongchai’s vacancy left by his death. Additionally, Prime Ministerial orders have led to increased security measures nationwide following the recent shooting at Debsirin Nonthaburi School and stricter controls on firearms in public places.

Do you think these new firearm restrictions will effectively address safety concerns?
